INTERVIEW

What inspired you to remix “Shake Your Bones,” and how did you approach giving it a fresh NRS twist?

Originally we were going to do a collaberation but I haven't done a remix for years and was chatting with Deon and he sent me the track. I though it was cool and would be fun to remix. Luckily he had all the audio so we decided on that.

How does this remix differ from the original, and what elements did you focus on to make it stand out?

The bell arpeggio was something I really wanted to use and the rave stabs and bells work well in my style of music. I ended up using a lot of the files from the original. I really liked the pads too and used them in the intro and break. I wrote a lot of new parts as well so I think its quite a bit different from the original, arrangement wise and sonically.

What was the most exciting or challenging part of reworking this track?

It actually took quite a time to finish. Longer than I expected. I did a lot of versions and the first mixes I wasn't happy with so kept tinkering. Then I decided there wasn't enough of the original vibe and the arrangement was boring so I went back to an earlier version and added more of Damage's audio and made it flow better. Its got to really excite me even after hundreds of listens so that was the main challenge.

Can you share any behind-the-scenes moments or production techniques that shaped the final sound?

Last track I did with Deon was “Fuck Them All” in 2005. I really wanted to do something with that vibe so first thing I did was put a new kick and bassline down. I experiment a lot and like to mangle the audio until I get inspiration for something new, a happy accident. It took ages playing about to get all the parts to fit together. Probably harder then I was expecting. I tried different keys but in the end left it as it was. It's sped it up a few db's as well.

What can fans expect next from you—any upcoming projects, collaborations, or future remixes?

After “Shake Them Bones” there will be a brand new NRS track called “Denial and Disorder”. Right now I am working on a remix of “Voxbox” by French producers Principles of Flight and I started another track which they will finish. Very excited about that. Been wanting to work with Remy and Pierre for a long time. Also been remixing “Dark Deeds”, an NRS track from 20 years ago released on Last Possible Solution. I have a lot of Serious Porn Collector material that I am going to be putting out soon. Been working on that for the last couple of years. A lot of material to release. Also I am doing a remix of a RAM track with Scorb. Its called “Primordial Soup” and from our second album. Started work on that and its ongoing.
